China’s Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal is to offer inbound duty-free shopping by the end of this year. It will be the first inbound duty-free shop in China.

There will be two shops located across two terminal buildings covering a total of 1,700sq mtr.

The Ministry of Finance approved the operation, and will increase the tax exempt amount from RMB5,000 to RMB8,000 for each of cruise visitor, according to Wang You Nong, chairman of Wusongkou International Cruise Port Development Company.

A big move to attract more visitors

Shanghai experienced a decline of both cruise sailings and passengers in 2018. The terminal operator and Baoshan district is sparing no effort to fully boost business by developing the upstream and downstream chain for the cruise sector.

The new duty-free shop is a move to attract more cruise passengers.
