Silversea Culinary Expeditions delve into Chilean/Peruvian, European Atlantic traditions

Silversea Culinary Expeditions delve into Chilean/Peruvian, European Atlantic traditions
Three new Culinary Expedition Voyages for 2016 and 2017 aboard the 132-passenger Silver Explorer feature food and wine events on board and ashore.

'An Epicurean Adventure Along the Humboldt Current' highlights Chilean and Peruvian traditions during a 14-day voyage along South America's Pacific coast.

Ashore, passengers will have the chance to savor a pisco sour cocktail and dinner at one of Lima's best restaurants, set amid the ancient ruins of an adobe pyramid. They'll also have a three-course meal in the dining hall of a 16th-century monastery in Peru, sip cocktails while observing an indigenous ritual in Chile's Atacama Desert and sample great vintages at a winery in Chile's Limarí Valley.

Highlighting the on-board experience are culinary workshops and discussions about the gastronomical specialties of the region hosted by Rudi Scholdis, Silversea's culinary director, and invited guest chefs from the region, such as Antonio Pérez, executive chef of Guayaquil's Oro Verde hotel. Plus, a Chilean wine expert will be available to share insights and lead wine tastings.

The cruise sails Oct. 31 from Guayaquil to Valparaíso and includes a complimentary flight over the famous Nazca lines, giant geoglyphs etched onto the arid Peruvian coastal plain.

Silver Explorer's South America voyage departing Oct. 25, 2017, will offer a similar culinary enrichment program as the ship again explores the continent's west coast.

For 'Atlantic Europe's Epicurean Journey,' Silver Explorer will skirt the coast from Lisbon to Honfleur, France, calling at destinations in Portugal, Spain, France and Guernsey. Fine European cuisine, from bite-sized pintxos in Bilbao and fresh oysters in Saint-Malo, to croissants and fine wines in Bordeaux, will be highlighted.

There also will be a culinary demonstration program with market tours, special menus and cooking classes hosted by Scholdis and David Bilsland, who oversees Silversea's L'Ecole des Chefs program. Silversea's wine ambassador, Lawrence D'Almeida, food and wine expert James Robinson, and cheese specialist Tom Badcock will be on hand, too, for on-board enrichment activities.

This 11-day voyage sails May 20, 2017.
