It was Silver Whisper's first call at the City by the Bay
Silver Whisper embarked on its 116-day world cruise from San Francisco, marking the ship's maiden call there and the first time Silversea Cruises has begun a world voyage from the City by the Bay.

Friday's call was commemorated with a plaque exchange between Mike Nerney, maritime marketing manager for the port; Mark Conroy, Silversea's managing director for the Americas; and Silver Whisper's staff captain, Zbigniew Jaszewski.

The evening prior to embarking on their voyage to Monte Carlo, Silver Whisper passengers were treated to a gala bon voyage dinner and live music presentation hosted in the elegant main ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel. The dinner is one of several included events exclusively for those taking the full cruise. Others are scheduled in Honolulu, Xi'an (China) and Abu Dhabi, along with a three-night grand finale cruise aboard the new Silver Muse, sailing from Monte Carlo to Civitavecchia (Rome).

The cruise will visit 62 ports in 25 countries.

'We're delighted to have the voyage depart from such an extraordinary and incredibly beautiful city as San Francisco,' Silversea ceo Roberto Martinoli said.

About 80% of the passengers are members of the line's Venetian Society loyalty club.

Prior to the voyage Silver Whisper underwent a refurbishment at Grand Bahama Shipyard which added a variety of enhancements to suites and public rooms.

Silversea's 2018 world cruise, 121 days, will sail from Los Angeles to Civitivecchia, visiting 60 destinations in 21 countries. It features 17 overnight calls and 13 late-night stays in port.
