Silversea Cruises became the latest operator to promise free Wi-Fi to all passengers, starting in January 2016. Silversea's service will cover ship-wide Wi-Fi, including all suites and public spaces, and all itineraries including expedition cruises.

Silversea will give each passenger at least one hour of free Wi-Fi per day.

Unlimited free Wi-Fi will be available to those sailing in the Owner's, Grand, Royal, Silver and Medallion suites on the line's ocean ships.

And, on expedition ships, the unlimited plan will apply to those in Silver Explorer's Owner's, Grand, Silver, Medallion and Expedition suites; Silver Galapagos' Silver, Deluxe Veranda and Veranda suites; and Silver Discoverer's Medallion, Veranda and Vista suites.

Passengers can take advantage of the service using their personal devices in public spaces and suites, or on the computers in the Internet cafés available on all ocean ships and the Silver Explorer.

Viking Ocean Cruises recently debuted with free Wi-Fi for all passengers, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises has offered it to those in concierge-level suites and higher since late 2014. Wi-Fi is often included on river-cruise vessels.
