With the increasing likelihood that Hurricane Matthew will brush Florida's east coast late this week, South Florida ports are under US Coast Guard-ordered port condition X-ray, which triggers preparations in anticipation of 48 hours to landfall.

The affected ports include Key West, Miami, Everglades and Palm Beach.

Port condition x-ray was set at 8 Tuesday morning.

Matthew, still a powerful Category 4 hurricane, was pummeled Haiti early Tuesday. A hurricane warning is in effect for Cuba's eastern provinces and the southeastern, central and northwestern Bahamas.

A hurricane watch was issued for Florida, from Deerfield Beach to the Volusia/Brevard county line.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Matthew may weaken slightly due to land interaction but warm waters and a favorable upper-level wind patter should allow it to remain a very strong hurricane during the next couple of days.
