‘This survey demonstrates that the cruise industry contributes a great amount to our region, with a total economic effect of €176 million and 1,100 jobs. It shows Stockholm is a popular cruise destination and that most cruise passengers are very satisfied with their visit,’ said Fredrik Lindstål, chair of the board at Ports of Stockholm.
Some 623,000 cruise passengers and 240,000 crew members arrived in Stockholm in 2018, spending €57m during their stay. In addition, the cruise lines spent a total of €25m on harbour dues, pilotage dues and fairway dues, raising the total spending to €82m.
The report showed passengers from Germany, the US and UK made up the majority of visitors, with 57 the typical age and most passengers travelling with one companion.
Three out of four passengers visiting Stockholm said they were extremely or very satisfied with their visit in comparison to their expectations. Almost all were prepared to recommend Stockholm to their friends as a cruise destination.
