Peter Collins has three months to come up with a short list of options
The NSW Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey, has appointed Peter Collins to chair a cruise industry reference group to tackle Sydney’s cruise ship berthing crisis.

Collins, a former Leader of the Opposition, was a member of the NSW Parliament for more than 22 years. As a captain in the Royal Australian Naval  Reserve he served a three-month operational deployment in Iraq and received the US Joint Service Commendation Medal.

The group, which includes industry notables like Carnival Australia chairman Ann Sherry, has three months to come up with a short list of options. It is to report back to the government in September.

Successive state governments have failed to plan for the burgeoning cruise industry and many cruise ships cannot get under the Sydney  Harbour Bridge to use the A$57m terminal built at White Bay in 2013.

Collins said the group will look at every option, from gaining greater access to the Royal Australian Navy base at Garden Island to the construction of a new terminal.
