Tampa racked up more than 800,000 passenger moves in 2016

Tampa's cruise business includes year-round service by Carnival Cruise Line
Port Tampa Bay chalked up 814,000 passenger moves in 2016, Paul Anderson, port president and ceo, said during his State of the Port Address Wednesday.

Anderson spoke at one of Tampa's downtown cruise terminals to an audience of some 300 port stakeholders, community leaders and elected officials.

Tampa also handled 37.5m tons of cargo in 2016.

Anderson said the port has a $17.2bn annual economic impact and supports more than 85,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs for the region.

Andrew Card, former White House chief of staff during the George W. Bush administration, also addressed the State of the Port gathering.
