Tarragona sees 83% increase in cruise passengers
Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada is consolidating its position as a Mediterranean cruise destination.

During 2015, 11 cruise ships berthed at Port of Tarragona's cruise terminal located on the Llevant wharf, bringing 11,600 passengers. The numbers represent 83% growth compared to last year, and the forecast for 2016 is higher.

MedCruise member Tarragona is targetting medium-sized ships carrying around 2,500 passengers and is studying the construction of a new, multi-functional berth on the Prats wharf, to be used exclusively for cruise ships in the future.

Almost half the passengers were British (42%), followed by the French (18%) and Italians (15%). Australians and North Americans each represent 6% of the total. Cruise activity generated around  €719,000 in economic impact to the area this year.

Shorex include the city of Tarragona, Montblanc and Poblet, Altafulla, Cambrils and Reus, Barcelona, PortAventura and wine cellar visits. The Human Towers display, often performed for visiting cruise ships, is popular with visitors.
