Technology boost part of Azamara Journey drydock

Technology boost part of Azamara Journey drydock
Pervasive Wi-Fi and interactive television are among a technology overhaul that's one focus of the 'Reimagine Azamara' drydock program.

On Friday Azamara Journey entered Grand Bahama Shipyard to begin its refurbishment.

The new Wi-Fi system will provide better Internet connection at faster speeds, anywhere on the ship.

In staterooms, improved interactive televisions will offer new options including movies on demand, live TV channels, security information, lecturer schedules, information about upcoming ports, weather and the ship’s navigation. Also, passengers can use the system to book shore excursions, view menus and order room service.

In other technology changes, the ship will gain an Inspiration Center where cruisers can plan their next voyage and learn about destinations. There, a 98-inch touchscreen will provide an interactive portal featuring a world map. Users can touch tiles to view videos, photography, destination details and day-by-day itineraries. Land Discoveries and Destination Immersion options are available port by port, too.

Three interactive tabletops for social media surfing will be installed in the Living Room and the Drawing Room. There will be ready-made digital postcards, or users can design their own art or make doodles using the Scribble app.

'These technology upgrades were important to ensure we are delivering to our guests the most modern experience possible,' said Larry Pimentel, president and ceo of Azamara Club Cruises.

Other changes planned for both Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest include more contemporary décor, an updated spa and new spa suites, and expanded dining and entertainment offerings.

Azamara Journey is scheduled to emerge from Grand Bahama Shipyard on Jan. 27, while Azamara Quest will undergo its docking in Singapore in April.
