Three consortia reportedly have submitted proposals to The Bahamas' Ministry of Tourism to redevelop Nassau's cruise port, according to Eyewitness News.

Financial company, cruise line group, Global Ports Holding

They were identified as a group led by Providence Advisors, a Bahamian-owned financial services company; Cruise Ports International Ltd., representing Carnival, Disney, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise lines; and Global Ports Holding, which operates 17 ports in nine countries in Europe and Asia and has been expanding into the Americas.

The government of The Bahamas wants to improve facilities at Nassau's Prince George Dock, one of cruising's busiest ports. The RFP reportedly was triggered by an unsolicited proposal from Global Ports Holding and local partners to develop the wharf with an entertainment park, according to Tribune242.

GPH is negotiating with the government of Antigua about a cruise port concession after earlier nailing a deal with the Cuban government to manage and expand the Havana cruise port.

Selection by year's end

Tribune Business said an evaluation committee comprised of public and private sector individuals will assess the proposals, and a selection is expected before year's end.
