Xiamen in Fujian province, home to new cruise investment company
Three state-owned enterprises, including a shipowner and a shipbuilder, from China’s Fujian province located in the southeast of the mainland, have joined hands to form a cruise investment firm in Xiamen, with a plan to build three 70,000gt cruise ships.

Fujian Shipping Company, subsidiary of Fujian Provincial Communication Transportation Group, together with Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group and Fujian Investment & Development Group, have officially launched Fujian Xiamen Luxury Cruise Investment Company, making it the first state-owned cruise company in Fujian province.

The new cruise joint venture firm is expected to align its developments to support China’s One Belt One Road national economic growth strategy, and ride on opportunities from Fujian’s pilot free trade zone and its busy shipping trade.

Fujian-based Xiamen Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has been appointed to build cruise ships for Fujian Xiamen Luxury Cruise Investment.

The initial plan is to build three 70,000gt cruise ships over the long term, but the focus will be to deploy a first vessel before commencing construction on another two.

Guo Xiwei, director of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Fujian Province, is reported saying that with the partnership of Fujian’s three leading state-owned enterprises, the collaboration would reap benefits of lowering costs, sharing resources, streamlining operations and raising competitiveness.

Local reports mentioned that the first cruise ship is planned to start construction in 2017.
