Top brass attend Nieuw Amsterdam's maiden call at Port of San Francisco

Holland America Group ceo Stein Kruse was on hand for Friday's maiden call of Holland America Line's Nieuw Amsterdam at the Port of San Francisco.

A plaque exchange ceremony held on board also included Capt. Bas Van Dreumel, Port of San Francisco interim executive director Elaine Forbes and Port Commission vp Kimberly Brandon.

Others attending the ceremony were staff captain Pieter Bant, hotel director Simon Tanner, HAL port operations manager Louise Rogers and Port of San Francisco's maritime director Peter Dailey, maritime marketing manager Michael Nerney and contracts administrator Boris Delepine.

Also present were officials from the Indonesian Consulate: F. Bernard Loesi, consul for information and public affairs, and Maryani Atmosuwarno, consul for protocol and consular affairs. Metro Cruise Services was represented by terminal manager Cathryn Lucido, BAE Systems San Francisco Ship Repair by gm Michael Gerbracht and Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services by regional manager Julie Smith.

Distinguished guests included Leo Paul Koulos, George Lippi and Gary Vrionis, while volunteer greeters were Joseph Dovichi, Mim Illencik, Harriet Israel, Fred Rogers and Jake Tomlinson.

Kruse wore a pink shirt as part of his commitment to don something pink every business day this month as a member of the Seattle group CEOs Against Cancer who are raising funds for the American Cancer Society in the Real Men Wear Pink campaign. Campaign supporter Michael Nerney wore a pink tie.

Nieuw Amsterdam docked at the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27. The ship was en route from Vancouver, BC, to Port Everglades, part of a 19-night Panama Canal cruise.
