Carnival Cruise Line revised the routes of two Miami-based ships to avoid Hurricane Matthew.

Carnival Sensation's Oct. 1 five-night cruise will head west, replacing calls at Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk with Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Carnival Splendor's Oct. 2 week-long sailing will reverse the order of port visits, and stop at Cozumel on Tuesday, Grand Cayman on Wednesday and Ocho Rios on Thursday.

Matthew is a powerful Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph/240 km/h, with higher gusts.

On Saturday a hurricane warning was in effect for Jamaica and portions of the Dominican Republic, while a hurricane watch was in effect for Cuba from Camaguey Province to Guantanamo Province.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said a hurricane watch could be issued over the weekend for portions of the Bahamas.
