Seattle-based UnCruise Adventures expanded its theme sailings in 2018 to feature Alaska insiders, including authors, memoirists, glaciologists, bear and salmon experts, nature writers, a historian, ethnobotanist, marine ecologist and cultural heritage guides from Alaska Native Voices.

Alaska Native Voices is an educational institute dedicated to sharing and preserving Tlingit traditions, heritage, art and song.

In conjunction with the line's 'Alaska Awakening' campaign, which highlights spring cruises, the Alaska insider theme will be exclusive to April and May departures.

For example, photographer, writer and wildlife biologist David Shaw, who also guides birding, photography and natural history trips throughout Alaska, will sail on the April 21 'Alaska: Northern Passages & Glacier Bay' voyage.

Historian and writer Daniel Francis, whose 30 books include the 'Encyclopedia of British Columbia' and others on topics from fur trading to Canadian stereotypes and myths, will be aboard the May 13 'Alaska's Inside Passage & San Juans' cruise.

Fiona Hamersley Chambers, enthobotanist and instructor of environmental studies and ethnobotany at the University of Victoria and seed farmer on Vancouver Island, BC, joins the May 12 'Alaska's Inside Passage & San Juans' cruise.

Frank Katasse, from the Tlingit clan Tsaagweidí, grew up on Douglas Island in Southeast Alaska. The actor, director, producer, improviser and playwright will join the May 13 'Whales, Wildlife & Glaciers' sailing.

A full list of the Alaska insiders is here.

Alaska insider theme cruises are offered aboard the 74-passenger Wilderness Explorer, 60-passenger Wilderness Adventurer, 76-passenger Wilderness Discoverer, 84-passenger Safari Endeavour, 36-passenger Safari Explorer and 86-passenger SS Legacy.
