Wet, but warm welcome for Britannia to Stavanger

Wet, but warm welcome for Britannia to Stavanger
Pouring rain washed the streets and quays Thursday, as P&O Cruises’ Britannia made her inaugural call to Stavanger, Norway.

All together, Stavanger is set to welcome nine inaugural cruise calls this year. After Britannia, the eight to follow are Serenade of the Seas, Viking Star, Le Soleal, Explorer of the Seas, Disney Magic, MSC Splendida, Le Boreal and finally Mein Schiff 4.

In spite of the wet day, Britannia was given a warm welcome to Stavanger at a traditional plaques and key exchange. CCO of City of Stavanger, Mrs Marianne Jørgensen represented the local authorities together with port director, Mrs Merete Eik and deputy chief of police, Mrs Gøril Vaaland.

Director of cruise development, Anders Bang-Andersen highlighted P&O’s presence in the Port of Stavanger for over 125 years, - and this year being the most frequent cruise line in the port, has been an important element in helping Stavanger become the third busiest cruise port in Norway.

This year, P&O Cruises represents 21 of the 142 cruise calls expected, with even more to follow next year.

Last year Stavanger welcomed 262,500 cruise passengers, and is expecting the same numbers this year, and more next year.
