Windstar Cruises has just completed its inaugural voyage from San Juan, Puerto Rico, marking the first time in recent history the line has embarked passengers at a US port. Two new Windstar itineraries from San Juan also feature Montserrat, making it the first line to call regularly since the 1995 eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano that buried the island’s capital city.

Montserrat returns to the tourism business with the recent completion of Little Bay port, a starting point for travelers to drive through the buried city, experience the deep water harbor and behold what is now the tallest mountain on Montserrat, still growing out of the old city.

Windstar’s 'San Juan & the Virgin Islands' and 'Caribbean Hideaway,' both new seven-day routes, call at Little Bay.

Windstar product manager Michele Hanson called Montserrat an 'amazing community filled with strength, courage, compassion and kindness,' adding that while the line would like to keep this destination 'a secret only for our guests, everyone in the world should come here and see what it means to go through such devastation and come through it stronger, wiser and kinder.'

'San Juan & the Virgin Islands' additionally visits Isla Culebra, Puerto Rico, on a round-trip San Juan cruise, while 'Caribbean Hideaways,' sailing between San Juan and Bridgetown, Barbados, also stops in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

The 10-day 'Gems of the Leeward Islands, round-trip San Juan, has nine ports includes an overnight at Virgin Gorda.
