Yokohama to use Sun Princess as a floating hotel for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Sun Princess will be berthed in Yokohama for 18 nights during the 2020 Summer Olympics
JTB Corporation, one of the largest travel agents in Japan, is chartering Sun Princess to be used as a floating hotel in Port of Yokohama during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Princess Cruises’ ship with more than 1,000 cabins will be berthed at Yamashita pier from July 23 to August 10, 2020.

Yokohama to host baseball and softball competitions

The baseball and softball competitions will be held in the Yokohama Stadium, a 10 minute walk from the pier and some football games are also due to be played at International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama city.

Hiroyuki Takahashi, President of JTB, said at a recent press conference held on Diamond Princess berthed in Yokohama port that the company will organize events in and around the port and city during the Games for both tourists and the local community so they feel part of the Olympic experience.

Cruise ships as floating hotels at past Olympics

Cruise ship chartered for use as floating hotel have been used at past summer Olympic Games including Barcelona (1992), Sydney (2000) Athens(2004), London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016), as well as the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.
