Costa Fortuna will get €8m in work, including many restyled public areas and new guest services, in Singapore this December before returning to Europe from its Asia deployment.

Work on the 103,000gt ship will be carried out Dec. 10-16.

Costa Fortuna has been operating in Asia but will return to Europe in late March to offer Mediterranean cruises from Genoa, 34 in total.

More Italian flair

A substantial part of the work will involve areas that provide distinctively Italian products and experiences. These also will be available during cruises from Singapore, December through February, which are available for sale in all markets.

Artefice Group, an Italian company with 22 years of experience creating brand and retail design, is behind the style changes, with the exception of the Costa Shop, which will be in the hands of Dordoni Architetti, the Milanese firm that recently designed the cabins for the newbuild Costa Smeralda.

Mozzarella and gelato made fresh on board

Deck 10 will welcome the Pizzeria Pummid’Oro, serving pizzas made with top quality ingredients. This pizzeria will only use San Marzano DOP tomatoes, selected flours and sourdough thanks to a partnership with the University of Gastronomic Sciences, Pollenzo, a partner of Costa Cruises in promoting a sustainable diet, respecting the land and the environment. And courtesy of a collaboration with Latteria del Curatino and innovative machinery made by Comat, the mozzarella will be produced on board and used in many Italian dishes besides topping the pizza.

On Deck 9, beside the central swimming pool, the new gelateria, Bar Amarillo ice cream parlor, will be installed. It will serve ice cream made freshly made on board daily. In renewing this area, the Artefice Group architects were inspired by traditional Italian bathing establishments and used pastel colors that give the space a playful and relaxed atmosphere for the ice cream parlor. In the evenings, cocktails will be served by the pool.

'My Moments' photo gallery

A new photo shop will be installed on Deck 4, with an exhibition gallery featuring the new 'My Moments' concept, due to debut on Costa Pacifica in late October and on Costa Diadema in December. The 'My Moments' shop and gallery will introduce new colors and shades for professional portraits and photo books, as well as new settings and backgrounds, plus photo-related souvenirs. The Costa Shop, meanwhile, will sell branded clothing and accessories.

Costa Fortuna's elegant and completely refurbished central atrium will be dominated by three large sails illuminated by colored LED lighting in an environment inspired by a new visual identity, with stylized waves inspired by Costa's iconic yellow funnel.

The Conte Verde lounge will be transformed into a multifunctional space. Patrons can sip a drink in the bar, or conferences and meetings can be held. In the Conte Rosso, wines by the glass will be available under a 'constellation' of lights, with piano bar entertainment. Sala Leonardo will also sport a new look, thanks to new lighting and an expanded dance floor.

The outdoor swimming pools and Jacuzzis will be restyled, and the two main restaurants will be fitted with new, more efficient lighting systems. The Club Restaurant galley will be adapted to offer a special menu for suite guests and, subject to availability, Costa Club Perla Diamante members.

Suite upgrades will include new 'emotion' showers with lights and water jets that will replace the Jacuzzis.

Itineraries

After the shipyard work is completed in Singapore, Costa Fortuna will sail two different weeklong itineraries that can be combined, to destinations in Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. On March 5, the ship will redeploy to Genoa, its main homeport for the rest of the year.

Genoa sailings begin March 26 with a mini-cruise. Fom March 29 to Nov. 8, the ship will sail Fridays on two different itineraries. In spring and fall, Costa Fortuna will visit Marseilles, Barcelona, Valencia, Civitavecchia and La Spezia. In summer, calls are scheduled for Marseilles, Tarragona, Palma de Mallorca, with extended stopovers in Ibiza and Olbia.
