Disney Magic's first post-drydock cruise is canceled (**updated**)

New water thrill slide AquaDunk is among the Disney Magic renovations
Update adds information about the ship's location. Bad weather on its post-drydock Atlantic crossing from Cadiz, Spain, has forced the cancellation of Disney Magic's Oct. 20 sailing from Miami. The ship is still at sea, and due to stop at Port Canaveral for the completion of renovations prior to heading to Miami for the next scheduled cruise, on Oct. 25, a Disney Cruise Line spokeswoman told Seatrade Insider.

The canceled five-night cruise would have been the first from PortMiami following the 1998-built ship's major refurbishment, which DCL is calling the most extensive in its history.

Among the work: a new grand atrium lobby, children's areas featuring Marvel super heroes, enhanced staterooms, an expanded spa, new water features such as the AquaDunk thrill slide, fresh dining concepts and nightlife areas for adults, and updated technology.

'Unfortunately, during the course of drydock renovations and the trans-Atlantic crossing, we encountered challenging weather conditions that made the necessary work impossible to complete in time for the first cruise,' DCL informed travel agents in a letter Thursday.

Passengers will get a full refund and airline change fees plus a free Disney Magic sailing of up to five nights from Miami or Port Canaveral prior to May 16, 2014. Those unable to take the free cruise may sail at a 35% discount on any Caribbean or Bahamas cruise of up to seven nights, taken by Oct. 31, 2015, excluding holiday and select peak sailing dates.

Disney Magic's drydock took place from Sept. 7 to Oct. 10.
