Fresh design schemes and details that pay tribute to the original Queen Mary’s Art Deco heritage characterize the 30 new Britannia Club balcony staterooms and 15 new Britannia single rooms destined for Queen Mary 2.

The additions are part of a 25-day refit at Blohm+Voss in Hamburg scheduled for the spring. Plus, the existing Britannia Club balcony rooms will be refurbished.

Britannia Club passengers get large rooms in prime locations and the freedom to dine when they choose in the dedicated Britannia Club Restaurant.

Other amenities include a pillow menu, 24-hour room service, Penhaligons toiletries, terry robes and slippers, a refrigerator, safe, hair dryer, and satellite television with multi-language film and music channels.

Cunard North America president Rick Meadows said solo travelers account for about 23% of all leisure travelers, according to the US Travel Association. Plus, he cited strong demand for Britannia Club accommodations.

Refreshed designs in the Britannia Club and the new Britannia single staterooms include softer colors to enhance the feeling of space, and contemporary carpet patterns inspired by the geometric diamond designs seen on the original Queen Mary.

Andrew Collier of SMC Design said the soft tones of the Britannia Club balcony and Britannia single rooms will be contrasted with rich imperial blue and antiqued gold highlights to honor Queen Mary 2’s Art Deco heritage.

Of the 15 single staterooms to be added, nine will be on Deck 2 and six larger single staterooms will be built on Deck 3L. New single cabins on the Deck 2 port side will have higher, illuminated coffered ceilings. New single cabins on the Deck 3L port side will feature two circular windows with bench seat cushions and a central dressing console table.
