Hurtigruten's Fram to get updated with new restaurants, Science Center, Tier 3 engines

Hurtigruten's 2007-built expedition ship Fram is set for a makeover with updated cabins and suites, new restaurants, a high-tech Science Center and more environmentally friendly engines.

This latest, large-scale Hurtigruten refurbishment will take place leading up to the (northern) spring 2020 season.

Scandinavian materials

All cabins and suites will be updated with natural Scandinavian materials such as granite, oak, birch and wool to create a relaxed and stylish look and feel.

The main dining room will be converted into two restaurants. Aune, the more informal of the two, will incorporate natural elements and serve Scandinavian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lindstrøm, named after the chef/Norwegian polar explorer Adolf Lindstrøm, will be both a cocktail lounge and fine dining restaurant, serving modern cuisine with strong roots in traditional Norwegian cooking.

Interactive Science Center

A new addition, the Science Center, will be packed with the latest technology and high-tech gadgets such as touchscreens, science equipment and other interactive features. This will be the place for passengers and expedition staff to engage for a deeper understanding for the areas Fram explores.

The forward-facing Qilak Observation Lounge will be completely refurbished and reemerge as Explorer Lounge & Bar. In addition to handcrafted cocktails, this area will serve unbeatable views.

Major technical upgrades during the extensive drydock include upgrading Fram's engines to the highest environmental standards (Tier 3).

The ship will serve destinations including the Arctic, Northwest Passage, the Caribbean, South America and Antarctica.
