Sky Pad - the new virtual reality, bungee trampoline experience
Mariner of the Seas sailed into its new home at PortMiami today amped up with $120m of new thrills, restaurants, staterooms and entertainment.

Just in time for summer, Mariner’s short getaways include four-night weekday and three-night weekend cruises to the Bahamas.

Royal Caribbean's first Bamboo Room

Giving millennial travelers more ways to play, the ship’s short itineraries pack more adventure than ever with Sky Pad, a virtual reality, bungee trampoline experience; Royal Caribbean’s first Polynesian-inspired, tiki-chic bar, The Bamboo Room; glow-in-the-dark laser tag, racer waterslides and more.

Besides Sky Pad, new ways to play on Mariner of the Seas include The Perfect Storm duo of three-story-high racer waterslides called Cyclone and Typhoon, a glow-in-the-dark laser tag game, 'Battle for Planet Z'; an escape room ('The Observatorium') and FlowRider, the line's signature 40-foot surfing simulator.

Playmakers, Jamie's Italian, Izumi

When it comes to new food and beverage offerings, The Bamboo Room is a laidback Polynesian watering hole with a throwback vibe and kitschy-cool craft cocktails like the Island Old Fashioned and Tiki Tea. Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade provides 25 television screens, an arcade, snacks and beers.

Mariner also has the latest Jamie’s Italian, serving fresh, handmade and rustic Italian fare by chef Jamie Oliver, and Izumi Hibachi and Sushi for Asian-inspired dining featuring hibachi, sushi and sashimi, made to order.

Giving millennials what they want

'Millennials want more frequent and shorter vacations that offer as much of that exhilarating adventure they seek. We’ve answered that call,' said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. 'With the combination of more thrills than you can count and visits to tropical destinations, Mariner is changing the game and taking the short getaway experience to a whole new level.'

Forty staterooms added during Cadiz drydock

In addition, the 2003-built ship gained 40 new staterooms for a total of 1,674. All the work was carried out during a drydock Cadiz, Spain.

Mariner of the Seas will embark its first passengers post-renovation on June 25 for a four-night cruise. The ship's short getaways visit Nassau and CocoCay. Beginning May 2019, the ship will sail to the new Perfect Day at CocoCay, the first destination in Royal Caribbean’s recently announced collection of private island experiences around the world.

Along with the recently amplified Independence of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean’s $900m 'Royal Amplified' refurbishment program that spans 10 ships in four years.
