The relationship between Navantia and Royal Caribbean dates back to in 2011 with the company’s revitaliztion program, beginning with the repair and revitalization of Splendour of the Seas, followed by several Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara vessels plus Mein Schiff 2, part if the TUI/Royal jv.
The Framework Agreement, signed in Cádiz by Kevin Douglas, vp of technical projects and newbuildings for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., and Esteban Garcia Vilasanchez, industrial vp Navantia, commits the repairs, revitalization and upgrading of its fleet of cruise ships sailing in Europe to Navantia.
‘We are very excited to be entering this relationship with Navantia,' Douglas said. 'Our work with them the past few years has gone extremely well and we are looking forward to working with them for many years to come.’
For his part, Garcia Vilasanchez noted Navantia in recent years has focused strongly on the development of fast-growing niche markets—cruise ship repairs, upgrades and conversions among them.
Since 2010, Navantia has repaired and upgraded more than 25 passenger ships.
The agreement includes the current revitalisation of Explorer of the Seas and drydocking of Allure of the Seas next month, as well as various vessels for drydocking, repairs and refurbishments up to 2017.
