Silver Spirit was built by Fincantieri's Ancona yard and delivered in 2009
Silversea Cruises unveiled plans for its first ship lengthening with 2009-delivered Silver Spirit undergoing a major makeover early next year at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard.

Starting in March 2018, Silver Spirit will be lengthened by inserting a pre-built, 49ft-long midsection housing six Silver Suites, 26 Veranda Suites and two Panorama Suites. Technical upgrades will also be implemented.

According to Christian Sauleau, evp fleet operations for Silversea, the ship's extensive redesign takes its inspiration from innovations introduced on Silver Muse, delivered earlier this year.

‘We believe the comprehensive makeover we have planned for Silver Spirit will enrich the onboard experience and be equally appreciated by guests. They will see many of Silver Muse's innovations and elevated comforts embodied by our reimagined Silver Spirit,’ he said.

Giorgio Rizzo, svp services of Fincantieri, said: ‘The lengthening of a ship always entails a rare level of complexity in a sector [cruise] with already high technological content.

The shipyard will supervise the project from design to full execution, to the delivery to the shipowner, Rizzo noted.
