Outlook for Cruise Shipbuilding and Refurbishment in Asia looks promising

Outlook for Cruise Shipbuilding and Refurbishment in Asia looks promising
London (1 June 205) - As the countdown to Seatrade Cruise Asia continues, Eero MÄKINEN Managing Owner of Emmanoa Ltd and Stephen PAYNE Principal Consultant of PFJ Maritime Marine Consultants are preparing to present a ‘Power Hour’ workshop taking place on Thursday 11 June 2015 from 1615-1715 hrs, where they will discuss the potential for both newbuilding and refitting of cruise vessels in Asia.

The current cruise ship order book shows a total of 30 new ships scheduled to be built by 2020, with a total estimated value of over US$23.6billion and 97,852 berths*. Although European yards still dominate with a 93% market share, Asian yard Mitsubishi HI are already building two ships for AIDA Cruises, and have their sights set on more.

Mäkinen is very enthusiastic about the topics to be discussed in the session: ‘Cruising is becoming very popular in the Far East and annual growth figures of up to 25% are experienced. The potential effect of this to the cruise shipbuilding will be discussed in the panel - the first time this issue will be publically debated’.

The full conference programme for Seatrade Cruise Asia includes sessions on Korea and the Wider Asian Market, The Future Geography of Cruise Tourism in Asia, Growing the Asian Source Market and two additional workshops focussing on the Cruise Line-Port Relationship and also on the cruise industry in Korea.

Hosted by Busan Port Authority, Busan Metropolitan City, Korea Tourism Organization and Korea Marine Leisure Network, Seatrade Cruise Asia is an annual cruise industry event, focused purely on Asia. The event will take place at the Busan Exhibition and Convention centre in Busan, Korea from 11-12 June 2015.
