AEGIS PROTECT Surface Protection Program comes to the cruise industry
The PROTECT Surface Protection Program combines cleaning, disinfection and the AEGIS Microbe Shield to provide ongoing antimicrobial protection for up to one year.
July 21, 2020
Applied to hard and soft surfaces, the AEGIS Microbe Shield chemically bonds with them to control and prevent microbial growth by up to 99.9% between regular cleanings.
Customers deploying the PROTECT Surface Protection Program include the New York, New Jersey and Toronto transit authorities, Nike and Under Armor athletic brands, Starwood and Shangri-La Hotels, professional sports teams such as Miami Heat for its training and locker facilities, and top medical centers in North America.
Now, Taras Consultancy and AMPC Global are collaborating to bring this program to the cruise industry, maritime terminals, destinations and attractions.
Destinations Together has scheduled a webinar about the PROTECT Surface Protection Program July 22 at 2 p.m. EDT.
Added layer
AEGIS is an added layer to any pre-existing cleaning and sanitizing program, and does not replace cleaning techniques, but assists them, according to Tony Murray, CEO of Taras Consulting.
Frequently touched surfaces like door handles, railings, elevator buttons, ATM machines, bathroom installations, poker chips and computer keyboards can be protected, along with furniture, dining areas, theaters and lounges, spas, gyms, boutiques, guest services areas and offices.
How it works
AEGIS Microbe Shield forms a long-lasting antimicrobial polymer that molecularly bonds to the microscopic pores of any hard or soft surface to form an optically transparent protective shield. Microorganisms are attracted to the coating’s positive charge and at that point, AEGIS Microbe Shield inhibits the growth of microbes by neutralizing their cell wall protection. The antimicrobial treatment effectively creates a bed of spikes that puncture the cell wall of microorganisms.
The product is not just affixed to the treated surface; it is chemically bonded, which keeps it working over a long period.
Unlike disinfectant products that are effective during the wet contact time, averaging 20 to 30 minutes, AEGIS Microbe Shield works 24/7, and studies have shown it is effective for up to one year.
The distributors said it does not leach into skin, clothing or the environment, and is safe to use.
Communications support
Companies that enroll in the AEGIS program receive communication items including decals and a certificate for display. Customized designs also can be arranged.
