After pounding Bermuda early Friday, the storm is now heading for Atlantic Canada during that region's peak cruise season. 

Earlier this week, Fiona struck cruise destinations including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos. The southeastern Bahamas were also impacted.

Cruises returning to Puerto Rico Sept. 26

According to Discover Puerto Rico, all ports have reopened with cruises to resume Sept. 26

'With most hotels, venues and all airports fully operational, we continue to anticipate a staggered opening of the attractions and businesses that have not yet reopened, Discover Puerto Rico said. Currently, areas and attractions such as Old San Juan, La Placita de Santurce, Piñones and Casa Bacardí are open, as well as national parks such as El Morro. However, El Yunque rain forest is closed as authorities determine when trails are safe to visit.

Dominican Republic cruise ports are operational

Dominican Republic cruise ports are 'operational and we have not received any information regarding damages,' according to Federico Schad, president/director Bahia Cruise Services.

'The areas affected the most by the hurricane are in the eastern and northeastern part of the country, all areas and provinces towards Punta Cana and Samaná. In Santo Domingo the effect was minimal,' Schad told Seatrade Cruise News.

He continued: 'In most of the affected areas power has been re-established and they are receiving important help from the government, the private sector and NGOs. In the resort areas in Punta Cana most hotels are OK and back in operation. In Samaná we have some hotels with damages which will need some repairs.'

Category 3

The Category 3 Fiona is now moving away from Bermuda, and forecasters expect hurricane conditions to reach Atlantic Canada late Friday night. A hurricane warning is in effect for Nova Scotia from Hubbards to Bruie, Prince Edward Island, Isle de la Madeleine and Newfoundland, from Parson's Pond to Francois.

Fiona's sustained winds are 125 mph/205 km/h, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
