Carnival Corp. seeks Bureau Veritas certification for COVID-19 protocols
Bureau Veritas (BV) is to provide health and safety services and accreditation to Carnival Corp. & plc to support the line’s safe return to cruising.
‘We are very appreciative of the support and collaboration given to us across our global brands by BV and the verification we will receive to underpin our framework of protocols for our resumption of sailing,’ commented Bill Burke, chief maritime officer, Carnival Corp. & plc.
Assessment
BV will look at procedures and protocols on board Carnival Corp.’s ships to identify and manage biological risks, as posed by COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. It will also assess measures taken in port and at embarkation and disembarkation points.
Outbreak management planning will address procedures for prevention, mitigation, and preparation to manage crew and passenger hygiene, wellbeing and health with clear definitions of responsibilities and roles.
It will also verify that COVID-19 protocols and procedures meet guidelines enforced by national administrations.
So summarised Matthieu de Tugny, president marine & offshore, Bureau Veritas, ‘We provide procedures and measures to protect passengers, company personnel and other stakeholders as operations are resumed, helping ensure that appropriate health and safety standards are put in place.
‘We have been working across many industries as a group addressing these new safety and hygiene challenges and have combined this now extensive experience to our passenger ship and marine expertise to support Carnival.’
UK summer cruising
BV’s initial focus has been on Carnival Corp.’s Cunard, P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises brands, which are set to resume cruise operations this summer out of Southampton under Carnival UK.
