Catalonia's health agency announces rules for cruise resumption
Procicat, the authority reponsible for protection from health and other civil emergencies in Spain's Catalán region, announced detailed regulations for the resumption of cruise operations.
The ports involved include primarily Barcelona, followed by Tarragona, Palamós, Roses and Sant Carles de la Ràpita.
European-flag cruise lines operating at these ports will be required to provide the Catalán secretary of public health their acceptance of the health protocol and notification of disembarkation of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases, as well as management of those persons' contacts in Catalonia.
Detailed information 20 days before sailing
Cruise lines will be required to provide the authorities with detailed information 20 days prior to sailing date, and Procicat will then be required to respond within five days. Operators should describe the cruise itinerary, dates of calls at Catalán ports, passenger activities such as shore excursions, the vessel's maximum passenger capacity and crew numbers.
The lines will be required to present a health plan describing on-board diagnostic facilities. A declaration will also be required, describing a health center to be provided by the company to handle actual and suspected COVID cases, as well as a plan for lodging asymptomatic patients and those not requiring hospitalization and a plan for arranging quarantine for close contacts before their return home or aboard ship.
Proof of insurance
Procicat will also require proof of insurance covering all costs for health facilities, including lodging, for COVID cases.
