Cruise leaders to meet virtually with White House coronavirus task force today

Originally scheduled for a week ago, the meeting was canceled the day after President Trump announced he had coronavirus.

Opportunity to discuss health protocols

Today's meeting will instead take place virtually and is expected to be a significant opportunity for cruise leaders to outline their extensive safety protocols directly to the administration. These include recommendations by the Healthy Sail Panel, which are de facto expected to serve as the basis for the industry's protocols.

Cruise lines and Cruise Lines International Association did not respond to requests for comment. 

The current US no-sail order runs through October.

Earlier, Axios reported the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention wanted to extend the order through February but was overruled by the administration.

This week, at Seatrade Cruise Virtual, cruise leaders expressed strong optimism that sailings might be able to start from the US before the end of 2020.
