Environmental Port Index appoints Flåm’s Jon Olav Stedje as an ambassadorEnvironmental Port Index appoints Flåm’s Jon Olav Stedje as an ambassador
Jon Olav Stedje, port operation manager at the popular cruise destination Flåm, is appointed also as an ambassador for the Environmental Port Index (EPI) as it aims to expand.
Norwegian based EPI, developed by several domestic ports and supported by DNV, is a simple tool for collecting environmental accounting reports from visiting ships.
16 Norwegian ports are signed up with EPI which is aiming to develop across borders and to other segments of the maritime industry.
Once collected the data is made available in an online portal showing details of each ship visit as well as aggregated environmental data for all ship calls.
EPI score
One of the outputs is an EPI score per port call giving an indicator of the ship’s environmental performance while at berth.
The EPI score may be linked to an incentive system, benefitting good performers, and increasing the cost for persistent polluters.
For the ship owner the online reporting tool gives an overview of all port visits, an environmental accounting report and a good understanding of how each ship is performing.
‘I am passionate about the cruise industry and to be a part of how we can reduce emissions and develop is a privilege. I do look forward to representing such a great and forward-thinking company,’ commented Olav Stedje.
