ORCA marine experts to inform passengers on board Fred. Olsen vessels
Experts from wildlife charity ORCA will inform guests on board Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral during the vessels' no port UK sailings in July and August.
Wildlife-spotting tips, lectures and Q&A sessions will be hosted on deck, with passengers invited to participate in conservation research.
Supporting research efforts
Data captured during the sailings will be used as part of ORCA’s research to identify hotspots for whales and dolphins, helping to create safe spaces in the ocean for whales and dolphins to flourish.
‘These sailings around the British Isles, with some also taking in the Faroe Islands and Norwegian Fjords, will bring with them opportunities to spot common Risso’s and bottlenose dolphins, as well as harbour porpoises and minke whales,’ said Clare Ward, director of product and customer service, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. ‘Guests might even spot rarer visitors such as the iconic humpback whale.’
She added, ‘having ORCA with us will make these sailings even more special.’
ORCA
Steve Jones, head of partnerships, ORCA added, ‘British waters are incredibly rich with wildlife and to have the opportunity to celebrate and showcase them to Fred. Olsen guests is something that ORCA is delighted to be involved in.
‘Not only will our cruise conservationists be able to teach guests about the wonderful world of whales and dolphins around the UK, but they will also be able to collect important scientific data to help ORCA protect them for future generations.’
Itineraries
ORCA’s sailings with Fred. Olsen will feature, but are not restricted to, Borealis’ three-night ‘Maiden Voyage’ departing from Liverpool on July 5, Borealis’ five-night ‘Scenic Orkney & Faroe Islands’ cruise departing from Liverpool on July 17 and Bolette’s five-night ‘Scenic British Isles & Summer Wildlife’ cruise, departing from Dover on August 19.
