Biosecurity New Zealand’s Northern Regional Commissioner Mike Inglis said there were ‘high-risk organisms’ on the ship’s hull which could pose a risk to the country.

Planned cleaning

P&O was aware of the problem when the ship sailed from Sydney and had planned hull cleaning before arrival in New Zealand.

However, poor weather made it too dangerous for divers to clean the hull underwater.

Heading for Hobart

The ship was turned around and is now heading for Hobart where she will overnight on November 28.

She will go on to Port Arthur (November 30) and Eden (December 2), returning to Sydney on December 3.

Passengers have been given A$300 on board credit and have been offered a 50% future cruise credit.
