Testing of unvaccinated at disembark needed only for cruises longer than four nights: CDC
Two important updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deal with COVID-19 testing at cruise disembarkation.
May 19, 2021
Cruise operators are required to test unvaccinated passengers at disembarkation on voyages of only more than four nights, CDC said in new guidance.
Specimens may be collected up to 24 hours before disembarkation
And specimens for testing may be collected up to 24 hours prior to disembarkation, but results must be available prior to disembarking, a change that will be 'huge for operators,' a source told Seatrade Cruise News.
Previously, there were concerns about long waits at disembarkation if the CDC had stuck to requiring testing that day only.
As earlier reported, antigen testing is acceptable. And there are no mandates for testing fully vaccinated passengers, at embarkation or disembarkation. However, the CDC recommends antigen testing for international travelers arriving in the US three to five days after arrival, even if they are fully vaccinated.
