Vanuatu Prime Minister Ishmael Kalsakau has declared a state of emergency
Tropical Cyclone Kevin hit Vanuatu’s capital Port Vila on Saturday, bringing more destructive winds and rainfall.

The Vanuatu Meteorology Services upgraded Kevin to a Category 4 before its power went out.

There had been reports of power outages in Port Vila before Kevin reached it.

Double whammy

Kevin is the second tropical cyclone to hit the country within a week, with people evacuated, schools closed and flights cancelled.

UNICEF Vanuatu’s Eric Durpaire reported damage to Port Vila Central Hospital.

UNICEF Pacific is shipping emergency supplies to Vanuatu from Fiji to support disaster relief and Australia is sending a 12-person assessment team, along with emergency supplies like shelters and water purification equipment.

Scheduled calls

As reported here, Oceania Cruises' Regatta is scheduled to call at Port Vila on Monday, with MSC Magnifica, Pacific Adventure, Quantum of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas due later this month.
