BLOG: A Day in the Life of Chiara Giorgi, Global Brand Director for Seatrade Cruise
We sit down with Chiara Giorgi, Global Brand Director for Seatrade Cruise, to find out what a typical day looks like as she and the team are getting ready for Seatrade Cruise Med 2024.
September 4, 2024
7:30am: I’m up and getting ready for the day; making time to get outside in nature is really important for me so I try and get a walk outside (weather permitting!) in a green space before setting down at my laptop if I’m working from home, or heading into the office for the day. A flat white is a must!
9:30am: It’s always emails to start my day! Half of our team are based in the US so I’m catching up with anything I’ve missed after my day in the UK ended, and making my plan for the day. I’ll usually grab another coffee and take a look through our socials – we have a huge community on LinkedIn (over 27,000), so I like to be in-the-know on what the cruise industry are saying about our upcoming events. I’ll also check out Seatrade Cruise News to make sure I’m up to date with the latest in our industry.
10:00am: I’ll be jumping on calls with our Event Management and Operations team to discuss any details around feature areas at the show. Seatrade Cruise Med is months in the planning, so this close to the show we’re going at 100mph to make the plans a reality!
11:00am: I’ll block out some time to focus on bigger-picture planning for the portfolio. We have Seatrade Cruise Asia in November, Seatrade Cruise Global and F&B@Sea in April 2025 – and we’re already in discussions with Hamburg Messe on Seatrade Europe in September next year! So while it’s tempting to put all of my energy into Seatrade Cruise Med, the wider portfolio needs my attention to ensure things keep moving all year round. I’m currently selecting Ambassadors for our events, developing our proposition for our Retail Day at Seatrade Cruise Global and identifying growth partnerships to help achieve our wider business objectives as a brand.
12:30pm: I’ll grab lunch and take time away from my desk. I find I have a much more productive afternoon if I’ve given myself some time to reset – again, green space if possible! I live close to Brompton Cemetery and love taking a walk around there if I have time when working from home.
1:30pm: Back to calls – our US team are now online so it’s important that I catch up with the full sales team. It’s so important that we stay in touch as a team (especially being on opposite sides of the Atlantic!); we’ll discuss the remaining pipeline for Seatrade Cruise Med, but also reviewing Seatrade Cruise Asia and outlining any sponsorship opportunities for Seatrade Cruise Global 2025.
3:00pm: I jump on a quick call with our marketing team, we’re reviewing new branding for F&B@Sea (you heard it here first!) so we review the creative routes presented to us by our graphic design team, and collate our feedback.
3:30pm: Our weekly Seatrade Cruise Med event meeting. This is where the pre-show excitement really builds within the team. Each department goes through their updates, from sales to operations to customer success to marketing to conference production – it truly takes a village! I’m really lucky to have such a dedicated team who truly want to deliver the best events for the cruise industry, and are willing to work exceptionally hard to make it happen.
4:30pm: Quick break before wrapping up my day
4:45pm: Back to emails – I’ll try and catch up with the US team to get anything over to them before I finish for the day. I’ll check in with Fran, our Conference Producer – to see how her finishing touches are going ahead of Med in a few weeks, and to see if I can support her in any way as she finalises the Seatrade Cruise Asia conference (it’s already looking fantastic!).
6:30pm: I’ll try and log off or leave the office, in the run-up to the show it can vary day to day but it’s important to me that I switch off to be able to give my best the next day. Working in events is fantastic but requires a lot of stamina, especially when we have so many plates spinning with such a busy calendar of events!
7:30pm: I’ll meet some girlfriends at a new spot for dinner, I love trying new restaurants – living in London is brilliant as I’ll never run out of options!
