CrewConnect Series, the world's largest and most influential series of conferences and event for the crewing industry, and the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA), a free association of Christian not-for-profit organisations working for the welfare of seafarers and their families around the world, have today announced a partnership to create the ICMA Connect Conference which will take place in parallel to CrewConnect Europe, 21-22 June 2021.
CrewConnect Europe Virtual Conference's reach and focus on leadership and the human element, and the ICMA's promotion of the spiritual, social and material welfare of all seafarers and the relief of need, hardship and distress among them, the ICMA Connect Conference allows global partners to come together and share best practice and propose solutions.
As part of this year's CrewConnect virtual experience the ICMA Connect will take place 21-22 June 2021 and will feature joint sessions, as well as separate and specialised content. The theme for the first ever ICMA Connect conference will be “Moving Forward with Seafarers and their Families”
The partnership of ICMA with CrewConnect Europe brings together leading representatives from maritime authorities, organisations and associations, alongside the most prominent shipowners and ship managers for the essential check-in on crewing in Europe.
Dr. Jason Zuidema, General Secretary, ICMA: “The pandemic profoundly impacted the lives of seafarers and their families, and consequently also the work of seafarers’ welfare providers. We need to actively move forward with plans for the future. The CrewConnect online platform provides an ideal environment to discuss solutions with our global partners.”
"We're excited to be partnering with ICMA," states Joanna Crisan, Producer of the CrewConnect Series at Informa. “We're looking forward to connecting more individuals and businesses across the crewing community, building better relationships, and unlocking the best solutions to ensure seafarers stay healthy, safe and feel cared for."
The Rev Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General, The Mission to Seafarers and Chair of Trustees, ICMA: “A conference in partnership with CrewConnect is an exciting opportunity at a key moment for all our ICMA societies. Not only does it give an opportunity to connect as ICMA members, but also provides an opportunity to work together with our key partners.”
Fr. Bruno Ciceri, International Director, Stella Maris and Trustee, ICMA: “Never have seafarers and their families needed more assistance from the global community. The challenges we have faced in the past year could not be fixed alone. So, it is good that we join forces to discuss how we can move forward together.”
"We are looking forward to delivering this event in the days building up to the IMO's Day of the Seafarer," states Dr. Zuidema, "and we are delighted to have the Day of the Seafarer campaign onboard as a media partner for ICMA Connect."
Celebrated each year on 25 June, the Day of the Seafarer recognises the invaluable contribution seafarers make to international trade and the world economy, often at great personal cost to themselves and their families.
By virtually connecting the ICMA membership and global businesses and partners, the conference explores how to move forward with proactive discussions that will improve the welfare of seafarers and their families in the years ahead.
