Facing the practicalities of EES - tips and advice at Seatrade Cruise Med
The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) has sparked a lot of debate at cruise industry gatherings for a couple of years now but as the deadline of its implementation fast approaches much of what has been aired to date has centered on theory.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be an automated IT system for registering travellers from third countries, both short-stay visa holders and visa exempt travellers, each time they cross an EU external border.
The system will register the person's name, type of the travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection.
Stand by for a dynamic session planned at Seatrade Cruise Med entitled: The new European Entry/Exit System: Practical Application and Recommendations taking place on September 11, 3.35-4.10 PM in Malaga.
Port and cruise line persepctives
Crafted by speaker Luis de Carvalho, commercial cruise director at Copenhagen Malmo Port, in conjunction with executives from TUI Cruises and MSC, they will each provide insights into practical case studies from cruise lines and ports that are dealing with the application of the new European Entry/Exit System by addressing the implementation of the resulting changes that both cruise lines and ports as well as the different Member States will have to make.
In this session de Carvalho, Timothy Herrmann, govt affairs MSC Crew Services (Italia) and Christina Hubscher, port and ground operations project manager TUI Cruises will address the potential challenges for different cruise lines, ports, itineraries, crew and passenger movement, and will share strategies and recommendations including a to-do readiness list for ports to ensure a seamless experience amidst evolving regulations.
EU border control
‘With EES due to enter into force by end of this year, it is going to affect border control at EU ports as well as cruise lines, from a passenger and potentially crew change perspective, and this session should hopefully provide practical application advice, clarity, and answer questions on this new legislation,’ commented de Carvalho.
