‘Last Penguin’ documentary to be made with Heritage Expeditions
Nigel Marven will document his voyage from New Zealand to Antarctica’s Ross Sea in search for the emperor penguin.
British wildlife television presenter Nigel Marven will join Heritage Expeditions’ round trip from Queenstown on January 7 to film a 60-minute documentary called ‘The Last Penguin.’
Commissioned by online documentary streaming service Magellan TV, it will chart Marven’s voyage ‘In the Wake of Scott & Shackleton’ from New Zealand to Antarctica’s Ross Sea via the Subantarctic Islands in search for the emperor penguin.
Passion project
Marven, whose career in wildlife filmmaking spans more than 30 years, described his upcoming voyage in the 140-passenger Heritage Adventurer, formerly MS Hanseatic, as an ‘important passion project.’
‘While "The Last Penguin" will culminate with the emperor penguin, wildlife and heroic history of the Ross Sea, it will also shine a spotlight on all the other rare, endangered and wonderful wildlife and otherworldly flora we encounter along the way, highlighting their importance and the need for their ongoing conservation and protection,’ he said.
Wildlife documentaries
‘"The Last Penguin" will provide guests travelling with us a fascinating insight into how a wildlife documentary is made.’
‘To explore and experience the Subantarctic Islands of Australia and New Zealand and sail into the heart of Antarctica with Nigel while he films "The Last Penguin" truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,’ Aaron Russ, commercial director and expedition leader of Christchurch-based family-owned Heritage Expeditions, said.
