Albatros Expeditions plans prime Greenland viewing of 2026 solar eclipse
Greenland expert Albatros Expeditions plans a strategic landing site to view the total solar eclipse in August 2026.
January 10, 2024
The site is 'precisely on the center line of the total eclipse, allowing observers to witness the spectacle as the moon completely obscures the sun,' Albatros said, adding: 'Crimson prominences dance around the obsidian disk, and streamers of the solar corona extend far into space. This carefully chosen location is perfect for sun eclipse enthusiasts seeking the best perspective and photo opportunities, providing an unobstructed view from shore.'
Aug. 12 solar eclipse
The cruise aboard the 2023-built Ocean Albatros is set to sail Aug. 10, 2026, and the eclipse takes place Aug. 12.
This 13-day adventure embarks at Reykjavík, Iceland and travels to East and West Greenland, ending at Kangerlussuaq. Albatros noted this follows the same maritime course set by Norse settlers over a thousand years ago.
'As true Greenland experts and seasoned adventure travelers who live and breathe unique experiences in far-flung corners of the globe, we are thrilled for our guests to experience this once-in-a-lifetime natural phenomenon on board our Ocean Albatros,' Albatros Expeditions CEO Hans Lagerweij said.
Nature, scenery, Inuit culture
And Albatros Expeditions Product Manager Steffan Danino also promised 'incredible Arctic nature,' 'jaw-dropping scenery and welcoming local Inuit culture.'
