Atlas charts first Caribbean cruises with new ship, adds 'Cultural Expeditions'
Atlas Ocean Voyages added 26 expeditions for its newest yacht, World Voyager, including the line's first Caribbean cruises, and introduced 'Cultural Expeditions by Atlas.'
July 19, 2023
Departing between March 2024 and October 2024, the new expeditions also visit South America with calls at Argentina, Brazil and the Falkland Islands. As well, the 2024 season includes Northern Europe journeys to Iceland, Ireland, England and Norway. New Arctic expeditions will go to Svalbard and Greenland.
Cultural Expeditions by Atlas
The debut of Cultural Expeditions by Atlas complements the existing Epicurean Expeditions by Atlas for culinary connoisseurs and Polar Expeditions by Atlas for intrepid travelers.
Cultural Expeditions will provide diverse perspectives, local engagements, folkloric experiences, art, architecture and museum visits, offering immersion into the cultures of each destination. Cruises will include a free cultural immersion tour, enrichment programs and exclusive onboard experiences.
The new program follows World Voyager's inaugural 2023/24 Antarctica season with Atlas.
'From vibrant cultural experiences to adventurous polar expeditions, these new itineraries showcase the richness and diversity of our destinations,' said James Rodriguez, president and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages.
Examples of Cultural Expeditions include an eight-night 'Spotlight on Brazil' voyage from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, departing April 5, 2024. Two seven-night expeditions in May sail the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles, from Barbados or St. Maarten. Beginning May 16, 2024, the 13-night 'Mystique of the Azores' sails across the Atlantic from St. Maarten to Lisbon. An 11-night expedition, 'Picturesque Peaks & Fjords,' featuring the Norwegian Fjords, sails from London to Tromsø, departing June 10, 2024.
Additional Epicurean and Polar Expeditions
Additional Epicurean Expeditions include a 10-night 'Vineyards & Vignettes' voyage from Lisbon to London along the western coast of Europe, featuring overnights in Bordeaux and central London. This cruise departs May 31, 2024. A southbound itinerary sails from London on Oct. 2 for 12 nights.
Additional Polar Expeditions include three nine-night Arctic expeditions sailing round-trip Longyearbyen, Svalbard on June 28, July 7 and July 27. Two 10-night expeditions showcasing Greenland’s glaciers embark at Reykjavik, Iceland, Aug. 5 and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, Aug. 15.
20 maiden calls
Atlas also plans to call at 20 new ports, including Balneário Camboriú (Blumenau) and Ilha Grande, Brazil; Rodney Bay, St. Lucia; Les Trois-Îlets, Martinique; Pointe-á Pitre, Guadaloupe; Carambola Beach, St. Kitts & Nevis; Gustavia, St. Barts; Sandy Ground, Anguilla; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Lajes do Pico (Azores), Portugal; Newcastle upon Tyne, England; Molde and Skarsvåg (North Cape), Norway; Qaqortoq, Paamiut and Akulleq Island, Greenland; Waterford and Bantry, Ireland; and Falmouth and Poole, England.
