Fogg, an expedition leader for Silversea Expeditions, was an expedition leader for Bratton’s former company, Orion Expedition Cruises (now Lindblad Expeditions), from 2006 until December last year.

He graduated from Queensland’s James Cook University with honours in Marine Biology and managed the university’s field research station on Orpheus Island for five years.

He first visited Indonesia and the orangutan reserve at Camp Leakey in Tanjung Puting National Park in 2002 and was appointed the first ambassador for Orangutan Foundation International Australia.

In 2003 he launched Wallacea Expeditions that specialises in boutique educational tours to remote far-flung destinations.

‘Mick has led numerous cruise expeditions through the sub-Antarctic, Australia’s Kimberley and Great Barrier Reef, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia and now he brings this wealth of knowledge, energy and passion to Compagnie du Ponant,’ Bratton said.

She said his role will be to assist in the development of new itineraries that showcase Compagnie du Ponant’s purpose-built expedition small-ship fleet that is capable of taking passengers to remote and rarely visited parts of the region.

She said he is an engaging lecturer with topics that range from ‘why aren’t there monkeys in Australia?’ to ‘happy snaps underwater.’
