Chimu and Intrepid, the Australian-owned adventure travel companies, have a three-season charter of Ocean Endeavour, that was built in Poland in 1981 and operates Antarctica cruises for the joint venture from Ushuaia.

It will sail under the Intrepid brand for the third and final 2024-25 season.

Ocean Nova

From March 2026 Chimu will operate the ice-strengthened Ocean Nova that was built in Denmark in 1992 and carries up to 78 passengers.

‘We’re thrilled to join forces with Nordic, leveraging their shipping expertise to expand our polar offerings and advance low emission technology in this industry for the future,’ Chad Carey, MD of Chimu Adventures said.

Carey said Intrepid Travel will remain a close distribution partner.

Ancient Peruvians

Carey and fellow Australian Greg Carter lived in Latin America and wanted to offer more flexible touring in the region.

In 2004 they launched Chimu, the name of an ancient civilisation from North Peru.

It expanded from taking tourists all over Latin America to operating the Ocean Endeavour cruises to Antarctica.
