The refit in Fremantle of True North Adventure Cruises’ original vessel, True North, is almost complete and she will make her maiden voyage as True North II on March 28 with founding director Craig Howson onboard.

As reported here, the 22-passenger mono-hull adventure cruise ship that was launched in 1999 operated Kimberley cruises under True North’s former branding, North Star Cruises, until 2005 when the company took delivery of a new 36-passenger ship.

Until recently she was operating charters in Indonesia under the name Ratu Motu.

Fremantle to Pilbara region

Her maiden 10-night ‘West Coast Explorer’ voyage from Fremantle to Dampier in the Pilbara region of Western Australia as True North II takes in the Abrolhos Islands, Ningaloo Reef and the Montebello Islands.

Howson said this stretch of the Indian Ocean is one of his favourite destinations.

‘It’s got the lot — great fishing, great snorkelling and great diving,’ he said.

2023 Kimberley season

From Dampier, True North II makes a repositioning voyage to Broome ahead of the 2023 Kimberley season.

She will join True North for a number of Kimberley itineraries to be operated by True North Adventure Cruises’ new two-ship fleet, each with its own helicopter.
