New Zealand family-owned Heritage Expeditions’ flagship Heritage Adventurer and expedition yacht Heritage Explorer anchored alongside each other off Russell in the Bay of Islands.

The 140-passenger Heritage Adventurer was on a ‘Best of New Zealand’ cruise and the 18-passenger Heritage Explorer had just completed an ‘Islands of the Hauraki Gulf’ voyage.

Heritage Adventurer then set sail on a 29-day ‘Grand Pacific Odyssey’ bound for Japan via Norfolk Island, New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands and Heritage Explorer embarked on a charter expedition of the Hauraki Gulf and the Coromandel.

First time together

Director Aaron Russ said the historic seaside town of Russell was the perfect destination to bring the vessels together for the first time.

Co-director Nathan Russ, who was expedition leader aboard Heritage Adventurer, said it provided an opportunity to cross train the crews on each ship.

‘It was an exciting time for everyone to explore and experience what makes each ship so special,’ Nathan Russ said.
