The ship carried revenue passengers. This followed Le Commandant Charcot's first voyage to the North Pole in September 2021 during a special post-delivery expedition, when it became the first French vessel to make 90° North.

'Great humility and emotion'

'It is with great humility and emotion that we have reached this latitude, each of us aware of the exceptional character of this moment we have been living,' said Capt. Patrick Marchesseau, at the helm.

On the first voyage, Marchesseau had been at the side of Capt. Etienne Garcia at the helm.

LNG and battery power

Le Commandant Charcot began passenger service in November.

The vessel is powered by LNG and batteries; When in battery mode, it can sail emission-free for up to eight hours.
