The Great Lakes offer 'a world of exploration as you've never known before,' according to a new video for expedition cruise operators.

'This enormous eco-region hosts a variety of aquatic, wetland, forest and dune habitats. We invite cruise operators and their guests to explore the stunning, biodiverse Great Lakes region during an unforgettable journey aboard their expedition cruise ships,' said Stephen Burnett, executive director of the Great Lakes Cruise Association, which produced the new video.

Explore the natural environment and indigenous peoples' history

Burnett said expedition cruising in the Great Lakes places the emphasis on experiences ashore, many well off the beaten path.

'Cruise operators may offer their guests opportunities to discover remote regions and get up close and personal with the natural environment — the unique flora and fauna of each port of call — and learn of the territories with a team of experts,' he said. Visitors may engage in 'ambitious hikes, view endemic wildlife, learn of the history of Indigenous peoples, indulge in local cultures and attend lectures from naturalists and scientists.'

North Shore Inside Passage

The region includes the Lake Superior North Shore Inside Passage, a new itinerary explored and charted by planners from expedition cruise lines under the auspices of the Great Lakes Cruise Association earlier this year. The destination was a finalist for 'Expedition Cruise Initiative of the Year' in the 2022 Seatrade Cruise Awards.
