October 20, 2023
All are aboard the icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot and feature winter activities such as reindeer-pulled sleigh rides, dog sledding ice-fishing, Scandinavian Christmas markets and a chance to glimpse the northern lights.
Lapland and Spitsbergen
'From the Northern Lights to the Polar Light' is a new 11-night journey along the Norwegian coast to Lapland and across the Norwegian and Barents seas to Spitsbergen. Passengers will have the chance to meet the indigenous Sami people in Lapland, and Ian Dawson, Ponant's photo ambassador, will be aboard to share photography tips including how to capture the northern lights. The cruise embarks Oct. 18, 2024.
North Cape to Lofoten
'Polar Lights: From North Cape to the Lofoten Islands,' nine nights, features dramatic fjords, dolomite cliffs and traditional fishing villages, with the chance to see reindeer and Europe's northernmost point, the North Cape. Dawson will be aboard this sailing, too, which embarks Oct. 29, 2024.
Scandinavian Christmas markets
'Scandinavian Wonderland & Christmas Markets' is another new Ponant adventure, nine nights, to Baltic cities including Stockholm, Helsinki, Gdansk and Riga, with a call at the Swedish island of Gotland. It’s a magical time to visit, with snow-dusted scenery and the smells of mulled wine and gingerbread drifting through Christmas markets. Passengers will get to attend a private concert at the Polish Baltic F. Chopin Philharmonic. Departures are Dec. 2 and Dec. 11, 2024.
Christmas with musician Renaud Capuçon
'Christmas Magic with Renaud Capuçon,' an eight-night trip, sees musician Renaud Capuçon and radio presenter Alain Duault teaming with Radio Classique to provide the soundtrack for this journey to Stockholm, Finland and the north of the Gulf of Bothnia. Activities might include dog sledding, ice fishing, Christmas markets and a visit to the Santa Claus Village of Rovaniemi. The cruise embarks Dec. 20, 2024.
Musical New Year
Also in partnership with Radio Classique, 'Musical New Year in the Gulf of Bothnia' is an eight-night expedition around the Gulf of Bothnia that begins in Finnish Lapland, visits historic towns and sails through the Stockholm archipelago then to Helsinki. The cruise embarks Dec. 28, 2024.
Following these voyages, Le Commandant Charcot will head to Canada to operate the first international winter cruises there, calling at ports in Québec and Nova Scotia, as well as the French territory of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
