Oceanwide Expeditions’ Janssonius to be fitted with SCHOTTEL propulsion
SCHOTTEL’s propulsion system – ice-strengthened to Polar Class 6 – will be fitted to Oceanwide Expeditions’ newest vessel, Janssonius, under construction at Brodosplit shipyard in Croatia.
Janssonius and sister ship, Hondius, are both built according to Lloyd’s LR PC6 class.
Propulsion
Janssonius’ main propulsion system will be powered by two diesel engines and include a SCHOTTEL Controllable Pitch Propeller that is ice-strengthened to Polar Class 6, with one SCHOTTEL Transverse Thruster at the bow and one at the stern for manoeuvrability. A twin-in single-out gearbox will enable the main propulsion units to achieve propeller speeds of 160 rpm, as well as a service speed of up to 15 knots; a long service life, and low noise and vibration levels are advantages of the system, alleges SCHOTTEL.
Janssonius
Janssonius is scheduled for delivery in October-2021 and, like Oceanwide Expeditions’ Hondius, will be built for voyages throughout the Arctic, sub-Antarctic and Antarctica.
Measuring 107.6 mtr in length, it will be suitable for 196 passengers in 85 cabins, served by 70 crew members.
